Sandy Norris brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the Island Health Foundation Board, marked by her extensive background in medical education and non-profit board service. Sandy has served as a Board Member and held various Board offices in the Accreditation Council of Continuing Medical Education, Friends of UW School of Medicine (Student Scholarships), Association of Hospital Medical Education, and Fairway Estates Homeowners’ Association.

Sandy is drawn to the Foundation by her long-standing commitment to enhancing healthcare education and delivery. For nearly twenty-five years, she worked closely with the Swedish Health System Foundation in Seattle, in her role overseeing medical education, for Swedish Health System. Her efforts contributed to the growth of continuing medical education offerings, residency, and fellowship programs through donations, grants, and endowments. Sandy has a proven track record of collaborating with donors and physician leaders to identify needs and secure resources, thereby expanding continuous learning opportunities and improving patient care.

Sandy’s professional journey includes directing the Montana Family Practice Residency Satellite Program, which matched Family Medicine Residents to clinical rotations in rural Montana, exposing them to community practice opportunities. Her medical education administration experience, coupled with an MBA, BS in math and science, and educational training, has equipped her with the skills to manage systems that meet regulatory requirements and ethical standards. Sandy’s passion for working with dedicated teams to achieve organizational missions and goals makes her a valuable asset to the Island Health Foundation Board.

Outside of her professional life, Sandy cherishes the memories of her life journey leading to Anacortes. She married her high school sweetheart, Tom, in San Marcos, Texas, and together they have three children and six grandchildren. All of their children are married to sailors, which perfectly complements the family’s shared passion for boating. Whether it’s spending quality time on the water or enjoying family gatherings, Sandy’s life is filled with love and adventure.
